WAY TO THE GOLDEN TEMPLE

 

 Everyone has a busy schedule in this contemporary era. Every person who wants to be happy and healthy—both physically and mentally. It is a need of today to participate in rewarding therapy. In my opinion, experiencing the wonders of nature and traveling can help people heal their minds and improve the quality of their lives.

As I belong to a country that is rich in culture, traditions, and values. It is also well known for its tourist attractions either fun points or religious sights. Every place has its significance. One of the most famous religious tourists’ attractions is the Golden temple also known as Harmandir Sahib which is situated in Punjab. There is a plethora of significance in this place.

 

 

GOLDEN TEMPLE

 

 

The meaning of “Har” is God and “Mandir” means temple. This spiritual place is all the gold is plated. It was built by Guru Arjan Dev ji in 1604 however, the man-made lake on the grounds of the temple was completed in 1577 by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das.

      ARCHITECTURE

 The Mandir is a two-story structure that sits above a 67-foot-square marble slab. Using roughly 400 kg of gold leaf, Maharaja Ranjit Singh built the building's upper level. It was constantly destroyed by Afghan invasions and was restored in the early 19th century utilizing marble and copper with a gold foil overlay. On a little island in the middle of a holy pool, the temple is situated. It is square, with four entrances, and a road that encircles the swimming pool. The four doors of the gurudwara symbolize the egalitarian beliefs of the Sikhs and the notion that everyone is welcome in their sacred place.

In the Sikh religion, equality plays one of the most important roles. Regardless of age, background, or creed, everyone is welcome at the Golden Temple. The architecture of the temple emphasizes the Sikh religion’s focus on spiritual tolerance by fusing traditional Islamic and Hindu components.

 VISITORS

 

Every day from before sunrise to after sunset, more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world pass peacefully through the original Granth Sahib, which is maintained on the first level of the Golden Temple. They have their heads covered and are barefoot. The sacred text, which is considered the Sikhs' eleventh and last guru, is accompanied by musicians who play instruments as they chant melodies. Before entering, some devotees take a plunge into the lake to purify their souls.

  World's Biggest Free Kitchen 

 

The largest free kitchen in the world is located at the Amritsar Golden Temple's langar sewa. Every day, more than 50,000 meals are served there. On holy occasions, the number increases to at least one lakh. The dinner consists of rotis, dal, vegetables, and kheer and is straightforward but excellent. It's interesting to note that all of the food served here is provided by followers.

 Volunteers Perform Free Work

 

The legendary Golden Temple receives millions of pilgrims each month. Donations are the only source of funding for the maintenance and running of this well-known gurudwara. However, the normal duties of cooking, cleaning, and serving food are handled by volunteers who work at the temple without pay.
